  1.                         WELCOME TO EASY INSTALL
  2.        
  3.        Easy Install packs your program using LHARC by Yoshi. It then
  4.        transfers your program together with a customized installation
  5.        program and a Readme.Bat file to your installation disk.
  6.        If your program, in packed form, together with the install
  7.        program will not fit on a single disk, Easy Install will pack
  8.        your program onto additional disks automatically.
  9.        All you have to do is fill in the fields on the main screen.
  10.        1. PROGRAM NAME
  11.           Please use proper case eg.       Payroll Master
  12.        2. DEFAULT DIRECTORY TO INSTALL TO
  13.           Enter a suggested directory for the installation. This will
  14.           be offered as a default on the installation disk but the
  15.           user will be able to choose another. If your program includes
  16.           sub directories these will retain their names but will be
  17.           recreated under the main directory name chosen by the user.
  18.           If you require your program to be installed to a fixed main
  19.           directory name then enter "No Choice" in this field and the
  20.           installation will be made to a directory with the same name
  21.           as the source directory.
  22.           If you enter a default then you must include a drive letter
  23.           with the default directory eg.      C:\MYPROG
  24.        START UP COMMAND
  25.           If your program is an EXE or COM file and there are no
  26.           parameters to pass on the command line then enter the EXE or
  27.           COM file name (without the extension) and the installation
  28.           program will start your program automatically after
  29.           installation. For the automatic start, Easy Install assumes
  30.           that your executable file will be in the main directory. If
  31.           it is in a sub directory then you must use the "No Start"
  32.           option. (see next Para.)
  33.           If your program starts with a batch file or if there are
  34.           parameters to pass on the command line you must enter "No
  35.           Start" in this field. - The installation program cannot start
  36.           such programs and will generate an error message if you try.
  37.           If you enter "No Start" in this field you will be asked to
  38.           supply the actual start command - this will be shown on screen
  39.           when the install routine completes. If there is no start 
  40.           command for your application then enter N/A and the installation
  41.           program will not print the start command line.
  42.           When you use the "No Start" option, the installation program
  43.           terminates at the DOS prompt, on the drive and in the
  44.           directory to which the installation was made. 
  45.        
  46.           SOURCE DIRECTORY
  47.           This is the directory (or main directory) in which your
  48.           program can be found for packing.
  49.           Please include the drive eg.      C:\PROGFILS
  50.        COMPANY OR AUTHOR NAME
  51.           Your Company or Author Name will be displayed on the main
  52.           screen of the installation program.
  53.        DRIVE WITH INSTALLATION DISK
  54.           Enter A or B
  55.        FILE TO USE AS README.TXT
  56.           Easy Install is supplied with a ready written DEFAULT.TXT file
  57.           suitable for any program which does not require special
  58.           instructions. If you select this it will be copied to your
  59.           installation disk as README.TXT and displayed after installation.
  60.           You can create your own Readme files for different programs.
  61.           Easy Install includes an editor for the purpose (Press F6).
  62.           If you prefer to use your own favourite editor that's OK -
  63.           provided the files are in the Easy Install directory and have the
  64.           extension .TXT they will be listed for you to choose from each
  65.           time you make an installation disk. If you do not wish to have a
  66.           readme file displayed then select "None" in this field.
  67.           If you use the readme.txt facility then you should not have
  68.           another file called readme.txt among your program files.
  69.       
  70.        INSTALLATION DISK LANGUAGE
  71.           Select the language to use for the installation program. English
  72.           is the only language supplied with the evaluation copy. The reg-
  73.           istered version currently supports English, Dutch, German and
  74.           Spanish.

  76.        SETUP DATABASE
  77.        Each time you make an installation disk with Easy Install it enters
  78.        all the parameters you have used in a data file. After your first
  79.        disk it will display a list of the programs you have already made
  80.        install disks for. If you are re-doing a previous installation disk
  81.        all you have to do is pick its name from the list and the last
  82.        parameters will be entered in the appropriate fields. The choice is
  83.        made on the program name field. If you have more than one version of
  84.       
  85.        a program then you can differentiate between them by remming a note
  86.        after the name. Easy Install recognizes a double apostrophe as a rem
  87.        indicator. For example two sets of parameters could be saved with 
  88.        the program names:-
  89.           Easy Base ''Shareware
  90.           Easy Base ''Reg  
  91.        When the installation disk are made only "Easy Base" will be copied
  92.        to the install disks as the program name.
  93.        UNINSTALLABLE FILES
  94.        The file names ~PACK1.LZH ~LHA.EXE ~FILES.LST AND ~PACK. are
  95.        created as temporary files in the target directory and are erased
  96.        after the installation. You cannot therefore install files with
  97.        these names in your main directory.
  98.        AUTOMATIC OVERWRITE
  99.        Installations with Easy Install automatically overwrite files with
  100.        the same name in the target directories irrelevant of date stamp.
  101.        This is ideal for updates to program files and for replacing Eval.
  102.        copies with registered ones. However, if you ship a combination of
  103.        program files and starting data which your user will modify then
  104.        you should create two disks, one for the program and one for the
  105.        initial data so that the user can do a program re-install without
  106.        overwriting his data.

  112.        LHARC AND ASCII 255
  113.        The ASCII Character 255 is not recognised as a legal character
  114.        in filenames by LHARC.  You CANNOT pack and install any file
  115.        with the character 255 in the name.
